Early Access For Virtual Reality Game Yore VR

A new open world game with forging and crafting may not grab headlines, but add virtual reality to its description and the attention of gamers is officially grabbed.

The new game, ‘Yore VR’ officially launched today in Steam Early Access at 12:00pm PST, capping six months of development from a small team of developers known as TectonicVR. TectonicVR partnered with Ironbelly Studios, an indie game service provider based in Montreal, QC, to streamline the development process, which will continue throughout Early Access.

Made for the HTC Vive, Yore VR allows players to venture out with nothing but the clothes on their back and empty hands to build Yore medieval village the way they want.

Yore VR is an open world sandbox game built from the ground up in VR. Starting in the forest, it’s up to players to decide where the journey will take them. From forgotten ruins to the ability to practice archery skills at the range or hew a tree.

Within the game, there are three options for movement to enhance travel around the open world as players work to unlock weapons and resources needed for Blacksmithing and crafting.

Featuring an open world design, it measures just under 1km x 1km, filled with beautiful trees chirping birds, beautiful deer, a river, lake and waterfalls awaits the player with a settlement situation in the center.

We mentioned crafting, this is done through Blacksmithing with Yore VR’ offering a semi-realistic blacksmithing sim, with ingots to forge, heat up and players can hammer away. Only swords will be available for crafting at launch with the type of sword made being based on a player’s blacksmithing skill. This is calculated based on the quality of the ingot produced at the smelter as well as the accuracy of hammer strikes, the average temperature of each strike over the course of the blacksmithing process and perhaps the velocity of the strikes themselves.

Weapons and buildings can be unlocked by gathering resources and gold in whatever order the player decides.  Once unlocked, buildings such as the pub can be upgraded over time, adding new features and benefits.

As mentioned, Yore VR is available on Steam with a price of $19.99.
