The latest update for Warface brings a brand new map decked out in a festive theme, new achievements to complete, seasonal gear to pick up and more according to an announcement from Crytek.
It’s the last name which should mean something to gamers. For years Crytek’s game engine powered the biggest PC hits, but rumors of employees not being paid regularly and other financial issues were answered with a press release and apparent ‘new’ direction for the company.
The Cryengine, which has powered notable games such as Far Cry and Crysis, will remain a core pillar of Crytek’s overall strategy, with the company continuing to offer regular engine updates to those who license and develop titles using the software. However, Crytek is closing down its Budapest (Hungary), Sofia (Bulgaria), Seoul (South Korea), Shanghai (China) and Istanbul (Turkey) studios.
The news about Crytek’s shooter could be an effort of moving the conversation along from this news, and frankly, the new stuff in Warface is pretty cool.
Warface is a free online shooter which offers an intense Co-op experience with daily new content, in which players can master unique teamwork moves and gameplay styles. They can also engage in fast-paced or tactical action in Versus modes such as Team Death Match or Plant The Bomb.
In the latest update, released today, challenges players to keep their cool in Icebound, a brand new PvP Bag and Tag map where players must take down their enemy, and then take their dog tags. The update also sees two of Warface’s most popular maps, TDM Oil Depot and TDM Hangar, celebrate the season with a holiday theme. Players can give their enemies a present they won’t forget by picking up a new set of “Evil Santa” weapons and snowball grenades that pack a real punch. Each new item in the update comes with new achievements for players to unlock too.
And as it’s the season of goodwill, players can visit Warface website’s advent calendar and receive a free gift every day until Christmas.
See, you’ve forgotten all about that other stuff already.
